Agree on Agenda Items

  • First we need to decide if we want to formalise GLUG.
  • Define the purpose and structure of the GLUG committee.


Formalising GLUG

  • Attendance was a clear indication that we are interested in formalising GLUG.
  • What are the pro's and cons regarding formalising GLUG?
    • People on the list(s) may feel alienated.
    • A too formal structure might scare off casual members.
  • A vote was called and unanimously agreed to formalise GLUG.


Purpose and structure of the GLUG committee

  • People willing to do the grunt work.
  • Finalise GLUG constitution.
  • Sustain open communication channels between the committee and the rest of the community.
  • Facilitate coordination between localised LUGs.
  • Source resources for bigger projects.
  • Events planning (Software Freedom Day, etc.).
  • Establish "formal" processes as they become needed.
  • Positions defined within the committee:
    • Chairperson
    • Vice Chairperson
    • Secretary
  • All other positions are no-portfolio.
  • Decided on 8 members.

  • Jonathan Carter was elected as the official liaison between GLUG and CLUG/Ubuntu-ZA.


Legal status of GLUG

  • The committee will investigate and report on the legal status of GLUG by 22 May 2009.


GLUG Constitution

  • Define what constitutes a GLUG member.
  • The committee will prepare a draft of the GLUG constitution for discussion and review by the community.
    • The draft should be prepared by 22 May 2009.


Open discussion about glug.org.za

  • The official registrant name on org.za's records is "Gauteng Linux Users Group", and as such the committee deems itself the owner.
  • JP Viljoen is appointed as the both technical- and administrative contact by unanimous vote.
  • Discussions about glug.org.za will be continued at a meeting that JP can attend.


GLUG Birthday Bash

  • The Chairperson (Ross Addis) will wear a penguin suit.
  • The official birthday date was determined as May 6.

    • Saturday, 2 May 2009
    • Saturday, 9 May 2009
